Post Pilates selfies just hit different πŸ˜…πŸ˜Œ

There’s a special kind of journey that transforms not just your body, but also your sense of safety and your heart. For me, Pilates became that journey.
It all started midway last year when my personal trainer, who had always guided me through the usual gym routines, suggested I try Pilates. At first, it was just a new form of exercise-something I’d only vaguely heard about, especially since it wasn’t super common here in Lagos. But then life threw a curveball that changed everything.
One day at the gym, I had an unsettling encounter that shook my sense of comfort and safety. A man approached me in a way that was far too close, ignoring all boundaries, and it left me feeling extremely vulnerable in what used to be my safe space. Even though my trainer stepped in and the situation ended without physical harm, that experience not only lingered, but scarred me for life. I found myself avoiding the gym, making excuses, and feeling like l’d lost a place that once felt empowering.
That’s when Pilates became more than just a workout. I decided to lean into it more consistently, I joined a small, intimate class at a local studio. It was a space with just a handful of other women, a quiet, warm environment where I could truly let my guard down. This wasn’t just about building core strength or flexibility, though those things happened too. It was about reclaiming a sense of safety and finding a new kind of feminine softness and strength all at once.
Over time, Pilates became my refuge. The studio, a haven. The tension in my muscles eased, my body grew stronger and more toned, and I found a kind of sweet empowerment in those quiet, focused movements. It was a healing journey, one that brought me back to myself and helped me feel safe and strong again.
So when I say Pilates means the world to me, it’s not just about fitness. It’s about finding a new home for my spirit, a place where I can be both strong and soft, and where I can truly feel like myself again.
And now, l’d love to hear from you. If any part of my story resonates with you, or if you have your own journey of finding strength and softness in unexpected places, l’d love for you to share it with me. This space is all about building that intimate supportive community, so feel free to join the conversation and let’s lift each other up.
